Dictyopteris J.V. Lamouroux 1809; 35 of 50 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and guiry 2016).

Morphology:

Upright or prostrate thallus up to 60 cm ibn length, with a rhizoidal holdfast. Conspicuous midrib sometimes with veins on lateral wings (Ibid.). Growth is by apical cells; clusters of hairs are scattered over the surface (Dawes and Mathieson 2008).
