Turbinaria  J.V. Lamouroux  1825;  22 of 54 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2016).

Order Fucales;  Family Sargassaceae

Morphology:

Peltate fronds born on branched erect axes.  Cryptostomata are common and scattered (Dawes and Mathieson 2008).

Similar genera:

Habitat:

Tropical to temperate oceans, shallow. Florida, Bermuda, Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean, West and South Africa (Ibid.).
