Name derivation:

 

Classification:

Tetraëdriella  Pascher  1930;  9 of 11 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2013).

Order Mischococcales;  Family Pleurochloridaceae

Possible synonym: Tetraplekton Fott 1957 is not separated here from Tetradriella for lack of information. Possibly it can be separated on the basis of shorter spines.

 

Morphology:

Non-flagellated tetrahedral unicell with four spines radiating from cell corners at equal angles from each other. One discoid chloroplast, no pyrenoid.

Similar genera:

Tetraedron has a similar shape.
