  • Acanthocyclops vernalis is often confused for A. robustus.  Three main distinctions are in the genital segement, endopite 1 of the fourth endopod, and the forked rami. The genital segement of A. vernalis is pointed.  On  A. vernalis, the first segment of the endopod of the fourth leg is as long as it is wide with a smooth inner edge.   Finally, at the base of caudal rami, A. vernalis has no extra growth.
