Classification:

Siderodendron  E.G. Pingsheim  1946, the single species description (S. manganiferum) is currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2016).

Order Chromulinales;  Family Chromulinaceae.

Morphology:

Colonies of up to 8 colorless biflagellate cells clustered at the end of rigid stalks secreted by each cell.  Cells contain one contractile vacuole and several food vacuolesStalks become colored brown by precipitates of iron and mangenes (Ibid.).
