Morphology: |

Spherical colonies with small flagellated cells( ~ 5 m diameter) located at the periphery.

||||
Similar genera: |
||||
Uroglena forms smaller colonies with < 100 cells connected to stalks radiating from the center of the colony. Sometimes Uroglenopsis is considered synonymous with Uroglena.

Habitat: |
||||
Freshwater lakes. Tend to proliferate under ice in late winter/early spring. |
