Classification:

Stipitococcus  West and G.S.West  1898;  all 13 of 13 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2013).

Order Rhizochloridales;  Family Stipitococcaceae

 

Morphology:

Loricate amoeboid unicells with a long pseudopod(s).  Lorica has a long stipe with or without a basal pad attached to a substrate, usually a filamentous desmid.

 

Similar genera:

 

 

Habitat:

Epiphytic on filamentous desmids in freshwater pools and small lakes.
